What do all CIOs have in common? A questions we asked ourselves before designing the secureCIO Panel.

The media is plagued with stories of intrusion to the largest brands we rely on daily; retail outlets, financial institutions, and among the latest victims are services like twitter and evernote which made headlines. When these attacks occur all eyes are on the CIO and questions of what they did, or what they didn’t do come into question. 5 CISOs join us on a panel that will discuss the clear and present danger these organizations face and the steps they take to guard against the enemy.

Ideaca started with a couple of IT industry veterans whose accomplishments included cycling to Alaska, sailing around the world and growing the largest, most successful SAP ERP practice in Canada. Our co-founders Mike and Evan eventually sold this business and were seemingly content to explore other activities. Within a short time, they realized that they could not hold back their entrepreneurial spirit and started Ideaca in 2000. We started with an initial staff of 10, operating in a small office penning ideas in a tiny boardroom filled with self-assembled Ikea furniture guided by the simple principle of “Great people doing great work!”
Although it may not have been the best time to start a technology company, we knew by doing right by our few customers at the time, Ideaca would eventually become a trusted firm renowned for excellence while maintaining an honest composure that focused on people first. There were struggles of course, recruiting people and finding customers back in the early days was not done by the click of a button, but rather through coffee meetings and occasionally taking a small ad out in the local paper. We never advertised on billboards and grew and continue to grow our business through word of mouth based on high quality of work. We were able to survive difficult times by listening to our customers, doing what was needed, not always what was asked for, while striving to make every customer a reference customer.
Along the way, we built a methodology that offers the best of our experience and knowledge in delivering projects the right way, on time and on budget. Helped our customers solve their business issues by focusing on the people and achieving benefits, not just the technology or hitting the goal-line. We made mistakes, some big mistakes but always corrected and learned from it. We came through the dot-com bust, various financial crisesand have survived, even thrived by doing the right thing, focusing and supporting our people and community, fostering a culture of growth and development, resulting in a place people want to stay. Our people help build houses, grow mustaches, serve food, climb towers and that’s what make us well rounded people and not faceless consultants.

Demonstrating its commitment to using IT for the benefit of society, the NTT DATA Group has undertaken multiple social infrastructure projects in the past. While continuing to support infrastructure systems that form the backbone of Japan, we will also target further progress as a true global business partner. Here, we will use our IT expertise, underpinned by our global perspectives and corporate size, to help customers innovate their business operations.

Today’s IT services market is characterized by increasing diversification and sophistication of customer and social needs. There is growing demand from customers for low-priced, short-term services in addition to services they can access when needed without having to possess IT assets. At the same time, customers are continuing to expedite their entry into global markets. With each passing day, IT technologies are advancing with overwhelming speed. With these factors in mind, the NTT DATA Group will concentrate on the following three focus areas, with the aim of delivering enhanced levels of value as a partner supporting customers’ innovation.
The first is to expand new business fields and reinforce product competitiveness.
Our customers are seeking increased access to solutions for reducing their IT costs, including cloudcomputing and Application Management Outsourcing (AMO) solutions. At the same time, they expect IT applications to address their increasingly advanced and sophisticated business needs. To serve such customers, we will strive to make our services more sophisticated and diversified, including through the use of Big Data, business analytics, and the Business Process Outsourcing (BPO) of core operations. In addition, we will improve our software production technologies-exemplified by our software development automation technologies-and conduct R&D on advanced technologies in collaboration with top-level global research institutions, universities, and other entities. In these ways, we will make aggressive investments aimed at expanding our presence in new fields and reinforcing our product competitiveness with the aim of providing the most innovative services to customers.
The second initiative is to expand, enhance and reinforce our global business.
To effectively assist customers who are expediting their global business development, we need to establish our own global operations. Accordingly, we have been actively broadening our international coverage. With operations in 35 overseas countries and regions, we have become a global corporation.
Amid the fast-paced expansion of the NTT DATA Group’s size, we are promoting the “One NTT DATA” concept that transcends corporate and national boundaries. This includes forming “One Team” for specific solutions and industries, a good example of which is the SAP Global One Team. Going forward, we will further upgrade and strengthen our global business in these ways.
The third initiative is to pursue overall optimization.
This involves the standardizing, streamlining, and consolidation of our operations at a global level, while enhancing the efficiency of operations through the integration and restructuring of Group companies and organizations. We will also target further growth by allocating resources appropriately tailored to our business portfolio, to cope with the dramatically changing business environment.
By making a concerted effort in the aforementioned areas, we will seek to become a Global Top 5 player, taking advantage of our scale of operations to deliver unparalleled services to customers. We look forward to your ongoing support in our quest to serve as a true global business partner.
